Volunteer at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum
I volunteered help curating an exhibit on Sally Ride, the first American woman in space. The role involved transcribing historical materials, assisting with exhibit development, and translating technical and biographical content into an accessible public narrative.
A central goal of the exhibit was to highlight not just Sally Ride’s technical achievements, but the values she chose to elevate. The most striking insight from the curation process was learning that the only award she kept on display was a teaching award, while her many technical honors were stored away. That choice underscored her belief in education, mentorship, and impact over prestige, and it shaped how the exhibit framed her legacy. Presenting this perspective was a way of giving light to a woman whose quiet priorities continue to inspire others.
